Sven responds to Mike’s please… “help, I’m having a hard time staying positive while my wife is in pain”

Hey, Mike, thanks for reaching out buddy. Land blocks here this morning. So dealing with like mortar setting fast and whatnot. So I’m gonna be brief but I wanted just to share some encouragement with you. When your spouse is experiencing what yours is, it’s kind of like if somebody has a really high fever, there’s, there’s really nothing that we can do no medicine I can take as a man, it’s gonna relieve the fever or sickness of somebody else. You have to just let it run its course it’s very painful to watch somebody that you love and pain. But the most profitable thing you can do in that moment, is ensure that you don’t get your own fever. And to just realize it has nothing to do with you
Right? So the more you know that the more equipped you’ll be as a person to just be supportive. Now that doesn’t mean you’re not going to feel pain and anguish. And it also doesn’t mean it’s not going to be a negative emotional experience. I think I could, I could absolutely fuckin assure you that if my kids had 104 degree temperature, I’m gonna have a hard time being Mr. Positive. And the reality is I don’t need to, all I do need to do is just keep my integrity within myself and be the best person I can be. And if the best person I can be at this moment is sad. Well, that’s okay.
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. That doesn’t indicate weakness. It doesn’t threaten my sick child or my emotional life.
if I’m struggling with that, so it’s not a negative energy. That’s one of the most useful things I think we can learn as men. Is it an emotion itself, it’s not positive or negative. Sadness is not a negative emotion is just an emotion and happiness is not a positive emotion. It’s just In emotion, you could be happy by doing something morally completely outside of your values. That doesn’t make it positive and many people are many people are happy when they’re doing something that they really shouldn’t be doing and later regret.
So try to read your mind at the idea that your emotions have positive and negatives. And just let them be where they are. lean into them, experience them, and be faithful to that emotion to experience it in its reality. And then in your mind, choose how you want to show up that way.
